‘Help us to stay with sick baby’

A SNODLAND couple are rais- ing funds to be able to stay close to their premature son. Elizabeth Hamilton went into

labour after just 22 weeks of preg- nancy with her partner, Joshua Johnson. On August 15, she was rushed to Brighton, where baby Elijah was born, weighing just 1lb 3oz. He is being cared for at the neo- natal specialist baby unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, more than 60 miles away from the family home. With both parents unable to drive and the charity-run hospital unable to offer accommodation due to Covid-19, the pair are having to stay in hotels and take taxis to and from the hospital. The Go Fund Me page states:

“Although we have been able to sustain this for now, our funds are very quickly dwindling.

“The hotel alone has cost £1,283.35 so far, and he could be in

there for several months yet. “Anything you can donate

which will help us stay nearby so we can spend as much time as pos- sible with him would be much ap- preciated. “

MP for Chatham and Aylesford Tracey Crouch said: “An abso- lutely heart-breaking email ar- rived in my inbox from Joshua and Elizabeth about their son Elijah. “There are some official things I

am helping with, but please read their GoFundMe site and if you have anything to spare to help cover their accommodation costs.”
