News Plans to tackle

bad behaviour ELECTED borough council mem- bers worried about the level of anti- social behaviour are pressing for stronger powers to ensure prob- lems are tackled. Ward councillors’ concerns

would be formally considered by the communities, housing and en- vironment committee, which would then receive progress re- ports from council officers. Councils have powers to issue community protection notices and public space protection orders aimed at “preventing unreason- able behaviour that is having a negative impact on a community’s quality of life”.

Girls on pitch

DESPITE a season shortened by Covid-19, girls’ cricket has taken off at The Mote CC, Maidstone. Under the management of Phil Jackson, the under 9/11 section has played in several festivals. This success encouraged the club

to start an under-13 section, several of whom have now represented Kent under-13s.

Car damage blamed on parking shortage

POLICE are investigating allega- tions of criminal damage to cars amid reports of increasing ten- sions over parking enforcement on a new housing estate. We understand two residents at

consistencies in the design drawn up by Kent County Council and the site developer. “This was a cause of frustration

to many residents, who contacted us wishing to see the rules on parking observed. “Now the issues have been re-

solved and the necessary legal or- ders are in place, we have a duty to enforce the restrictions. How- ever…we thought it only fair to warn residents first before issu- ing any penalties.”

changes and welcome an open di- alogue between the council, de- veloper and residents going forward.” Police are investigating the al- legations of criminal damage.
