SERVICE ABOVE SELF
JUNE 2020 : ISSUE 134
P
resident Elect Jim Allison took Club members through its annual Planning Meeting via Zoom on
Tuesday 26th May.
He started by saying that we would all experience a different Rotary year ahead for a number of reasons, not least the pandemic, meaning meetings in the foreseeable future might be held on Zoom. We would not be meeting together for some time as the way out of ‘Lockdown’ was looking like it would be slow and steady. Our venue is also in question as the Scores Hotel is currently up for sale. Jim started explaining his ideas for the way ahead by showing quotes from incoming RI President Holger Knaack, the first German Rotarian to be honoured thus and showing his theme for 2020-21. (See quotes and images below.)
He hoped that our Club would be active and attractive whilst enjoying fun and fellowship and his focus would be ‘Adapt and Act’. We would need to adapt to meeting by Zoom, fundraising in different ways and give support to ensure the member s remained engaged. He hoped that we would act by ensuring that we give rapid financial help when it is required and give practical help through participation in local projects, thus strengthening our connection with the community. Jim proceeded to take us through the goals and plans of the var ious committees, the Charity Budget and possible fundraising events. The meeting was then open for general discussion, comments and ideas from members. We l o o k f o rwa r d t o t h e f i n a l presentation at our Club Assembly on Tuesday 9th June.
• “Rotary isn’t just a club for people to join, but rather an invitation to endless opportunities.”
• “Rotary creates pathways for members to improve their lives and the lives of those they help through service projects.”
• “We believe that our acts of service, big and small, create opportunities for people who need our help.”
