The history of each of these taverns is given in Kenneth Rogers’ 1935 work on the Cornhill, Threadneedle Street and Lombard Street districts of London. The issue of two different tokens at the Castle Tavern in 1651 may have indicated a change in management from the Finch family to Thomas Horsman. N 6809, dated 1648, was one of the first London tokens to be issued in the series
