Macqueen Vets
Easter Egg Thief? Dogs have a keen sense of smell and are very good at tracking down where the treats are hidden. We all know chocolate is not good for pets, but whilst milk and white chocolate may cause upset tums, please be aware that dark chocolate and cocoa powder (chocolate cake) are VERY POISONOUS to dogs, cats and rabbits. These contain high levels of Theobromine which they are unable to metabolise, so it may cause serious effects on the heart and nervous system. Just 25g dark chocolate or 6g cocoa powder is enough to cause poisoning in a terrier. If your pet has eaten chocolate (and dogs are most likely to be the guilty party!) please contact your vet immediately as prompt treatment is vital.
Beware of the tick!
The warmer weather brings out the ticks, so it’s time to ensure your pet is protected. A bite may transmit diseases such as Lyme Disease, Babesiosis and Tick-borne encephalitis.
See us about tick REPELLENT products so the tick never gets a chance to bite your pet. The most effective come as a collar or spot-on preparation. Tablets are also available.
For you: cover bare areas of skin with light coloured clothing and use insect repellents. Should you find a tick: carefully remove it using a tick hook to prevent it releasing additional infection into the wound.
