elcome to the latest issue of Information Profes- sional, the leading print and digital magazine for and about information professionals. It has been great to hear from readers across the UK and internationally about how much you enjoy the news, features and analysis in the magazine. Do please keep your messages and suggestions coming! 2019 is off to a fl ying start already. Over at CILIP we have been working hard to launch the joint CILIP/KPMG report Informa- tion as an Asset, encouraging senior decision-makers to value and invest in the information in their organisation (p. 6). We have welcomed the recommendations of the Topol Review, (p. 5) the landmark report into how AI, big data and machine learning are transforming healthcare. We’re also getting underway with some really exciting new projects thanks to the support of Arts Council England, so watch this space!

One of my favourite parts of working at CILIP is supporting our hardworking team with the programme for our conferences and events across the UK. Don’t miss this month’s interview with the fi rst of our CILIP Conference 2019 keynotes, Kriti Sharma, talking about her pioneering work in AI and ethics (pp. 20-22). And with CILIP in Scotland gearing up for its annual conference, we hear from keynote Christian Lauersen, Library Director of Libraries and Citizen Services in Roskilde Municipality, Denmark, on peo- ple-centred services (p. 8).

Also this month, we’ve got exciting coverage of developments in diff erent sectors, including some innovative work at the UCL Student Centre (In Depth on pp. 23-25, and a new Insight column on pp. 39-39); an insight into how public libraries are support- ing International Games Week (pp. 34-37); while CILIP Past President Ayub Khan talks about his collaboration with Google to develop digital toolkits (pp. 42-44). William Sieghart talks to IP about a potentially game-changing plan for public libraries (pp. 16-18).

CILIP is gearing up for the launch of our new Knowledge Management Chartership in April. This is an important step in our work to do more to support information professionals working in Knowledge Management and it has been great to see the positive reception this has had already. You can fi nd out more about these developments in our interview with Dominique Poole-Avery, Knowledge Manager and Associate at Arup and from Jamie Pilgrim of Linklaters in the fi rst of our regular columns looking at the relationship between knowledge systems and their users. I hope that you enjoy reading this month’s edition and as always do send us your comments and feedback!
