cloud of sleepy bumblebees rose, rather than a malevolent swarm of killer bees. While I’m not overly fond of stinging net- tles, I’m not complaining, I’m counting my blessings. Finally, weather is so different. One of
the most common questions I get is if I find the rain difficult to bear. An interest- ing fact: the average rainfall in Swansea is not a great deal higher than in Houston. Te difference is, in Houston it would come less frequently, but as a torrential, destructive force of nature. Walking in a downpour was terrible, and life and prop- erty-destroying floods were a yearly occur- rence. And the alternative was often withering, oppressive humid heat. Tis heat lasted close to three-quarters of the year. So, no, I do not find the gentle, mild, cool days and nights of Wales to be

an unwelcome change. Tere are plenty of days on which I can enjoy the amazing beaches of Rhossili and Gower, green fields, the hills of Pembrokeshire, and stately Brecon Beacon mountains. Staying inside my warm, stone-walled, fire- warmed sitting room is just fine for the rainy days. So, have I enjoyed my transition to UK
living? Do I pine to return to the home of my birth? Well, I miss the loved ones I had to leave behind. But I have the amaz- ing resource of Skype and FaceTime to help them remember my face until I can fly back to visit. And when I can persuade them to come to me for a visit, I have the most amazing place to share with them. And, who knows? Maybe my praises will be enough to bring them to join me per- manently in Wales someday.
