Francine Bosco, Editor

I’m always curious about what has brought someone to live in Britain – work, education, a relationship or simply being an Anglophile. I also love to hear how people acclimate themselves to life in a new country, so it was a real pleasure to read our contributor’s story on page 4 about life as a transplanted Texan in Wales. It’s a fascinating part of the country with a unique culture and history and we enjoyed bringing an expat perspective to it. Our regular column, FOCUS & me, also gives insight into a member’s move to Britain and it’s always interesting and gratifying to hear how FOCUS has helped people settle into their new lives here.

In each issue, we make sure to get out of London and explore other parts of the country. Tis time, in addition to Wales, we head to Scotland for two nights in Edinburgh. Just on the outskirts of London, Katie Wignall tells us all about Turner’s house in Twickenham on page 30. Alternatively, right here in the heart of central London, Cindy Lawford fills us in on the history of Jermyn Street, a centre of men’s fashion, on page 11.

Moving to another country is an exciting opportunity for many; it broadens our outlook on the world and it’s not unusual to hear from people who have been profoundly changed by the experience of living in another country. Our contributor Jelena Radonjic reflects on what it means to belong somewhere or to have that sense of belonging challenged. I hope you enjoy her article on page 24.

As usual, there’s so much more in this issue and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it all together. We look forward to seeing you at one of our many events and seminars or if you’re in the neighbourhood, drop in to say hello. We’d love to see you.
