Creating a Home from Home
Taking on a large renovation project, or even just fully furnishing a new home can be a daunting task, especially in a new city.
Here are a few tips to create the perfect home: .
Layout
Making a home liveable and maximising space, particularly in central London, is a fundamental part of design. Te sizing and proportion of furniture should be planned ahead as well as thinking about how you will use a space. For example, how many seats do you need in a living space for when family and friends visit? How many TVs do you want in the house, would a cinema room be a possibility? Do you have enough storage space and what is the most efficient way of creating that? What is the best way to layout the furniture to make the room flow? Zoning is a useful design tool, particu-
larly in open plan spaces, as it defines the uses of certain spaces. Adding a rug for specific areas or a divider can help to create this.
Joinery
Bespoke joinery is the most efficient way to maximise space and can be designed specif- ically to your requirements. From the number of books you have in your library to the number of shoes in your wardrobe,

joinery can be designed to store everything you own so your home can always be look- ing amazing, no matter how many toys or clothes or items you need to store.
Colour scheme
Even a neutral colour palette should be made up of lots of different tones and tex- tures to create interest. For more colourful schemes, pick a maximum of two accent colours that usually work best off a neutral base. Again, planning ahead with fabric choices of furniture to blend with curtains, flooring and joinery is essential to imple- menting a cohesive design.
Lighting
Creating effective lighting is important. Analyse the uses and functionality of a room. Work out how many lumens are necessary so you can choose the right light- ing for a space. Different spaces require different amounts and types of light de- pending on their uses. Obviously lighting can be used as decorative features too, with statement chandeliers or beautiful wall sconces adding style as well as light.
