"Over the years investment in art has quickly gained in popularity. Not only can a fabulous piece of fine art enhance your home interior, but in my experience, it can also evoke powerful emotions. A piece can also increase in value simply by hanging on your sitting room wall. A phrase I commonly hear is; “I don’t know anything about art. I only know what I like and don’t like”.
I've always approached the sale of any artwork with an open, honest and clear message to my clients. I believe, any investment will always have an element of risk, however research has shown that the price of art has risen more than 1,000% in the last 40 years, whilst in recent years art has shown a consistent rise of 25% or more. It is these kinds of returns that have caught the attention of the investment world.
There is a prestige connected with developing a private
collection. If you're looking to start your own collection or maybe just purchase a few pieces to decorate your home, my advice is always educate yourself. Trust your gut feeling and go with your emotions! Beware of falling into the trap of being told what you should buy or what is the next ‘best investment’ by an art consultant.
If you have an investment time horizon of 10 years or more, the wonderful and profitable world of art is invigorating. Be sure to buy original where possible and avoid prolific artists, who have swamped the market.
