LEAF AND GROUND, DURSLEY

66

LewisLoves.com is a Cotswolds and South West lifestyle blog run by Adam and Sarah Lewis, sharing the very best the area has to offer. “Food is a particular passion of ours, and we can't wait to share our hidden gems with you. You can also follow us over on Twitter @adamlewisloves and Instagram @sarahlewisloves for foodie inspiration and much more besides."

Having heard some seriously good things about the new Leaf and Ground café over in Dursley, I told Adam we needed to check it out. With a deli focused on local produce and zero waste, a garden centre, kids' play area, rare breed animals and acres of woodland to explore, Leaf and Ground is so much more than just another very good café. The littlest Lewis had an absolute riot stomping around the grounds, exploring the lake and mooing at the cows, before heading inside to polish off half of my lunch.

Their menu caters for all diets and offers some more exciting dishes as well as soups, scones, and twists on some classic lunch dishes (mushroom and sauerkraut croque monsieur, I'm looking at you). Kombucha, natural cordials served in carafes, and local coffee sit happily on their drink’s menu alongside some of the best locally made spirits, beer and wine which I could have quite easily worked my way through. There really is something for everyone here.

Eating on a Friday lunchtime with our little buddy in tow, we opted for a range of things to tempt a hungry toddler as well as satisfy us too. Despite being tempted by the sauerkraut croque, I eventually chose the tart of the day - leek, cheese and kale with

salad and a side of rosemary salted fries (of which I was allowed to eat precisely five of before they were commandeered by two tiny hands) whilst Adam tucked into a spicy shakshuka - sharing it with our little foodie, who demanded bites in between tiny fistfuls of fries. Everything we had was delicious - we couldn't have asked for more. Service was friendly, warm and welcoming, especially towards Harry who lapped up the attention willingly. We rounded out our lunch with a slab of chocolate chunk shortbread for good measure.

With our hunger sated, we ventured into the deli. This was a smart move as it's a foodie's paradise stocked with many locally made goodies - I'd definitely advise eating first as you'll undoubtedly want to buy one of everything. We treated the littlest Lewis to some banana chips from the zero-waste section and stocked up on a few tasty items for our supper too.

We've since been back to Leaf and Ground twice more and found it to be wonderfully consistent - the holy grail for any food lover. Our last visit involved burgers, hot chocolates, more fries, a babyccino, and yes, I finally tried the sauerkraut croque. And yes, it was extremely good!
