• If the person is using an AAC device, ask if they would like you to read the message on the screen while they are typing the message or wait for them to prepare the message and they speak it out (using their device)


• Do not ask the person to explain how their device works, touch the communication device, or examine the vocabulary on the display, unless the person invites you to.
