Repair; Refurb; Retrofit Preserving Built Heritage

Sash windows have been a feature of homes and large commercial buildings in Britain for over 300 years and can tell you a lot about the history of a property. With an increasing interest in conserving the historic craftsmanship of period windows, the experts at Ventrolla are keen to help preserve the aesthetic appeal that they embody.

To ensure a sash window is renovated to a high standard, it helps to understand the anatomy and construction of it first. Ventrolla have over 35 years’ experience renovating, draught proofing and double-glazing timber sliding sash windows, so know only too well the problems clients and customers encounter, but most importantly, how to fix them.

The anatomy of a sash window is a complex thing. Many parts need to work together to make the window operate smoothly.

One of the key features of the sash window is the 3mm gap around the edge of the sash, designed to enable them to move past one another for opening. With the small gap comes draughts, causing rattles on windy days, and allowing loud noises to filter through.

To combat these issues, Ventrolla install their unique Perimeter Sealing System, a draught-proofing system that becomes an integral part of your window, sealing these problematic gaps whilst still allowing for a smooth transition of both sashes.

Whilst renovating a timber window, Ventrolla also remove and replace any and all rotten timbers, such as rotten windows sills, ensuring only dry, sound timber is left to stand the British weather.

Replacement sashes (the sliding parts) can also be manufactured in their UK workshop, matching the existing profile. These can be single or double glazed, dependant on the client’s preference and any legalities such as listed building status or properties within conservation areas.
