Their strategies seem to be working,


with Luke’s performance across a range of tournaments continuing to impress. He completed the 2019 season with a Best Playing Pony blanket for his jet-black mare Ink in the final of the President’s Trophy. Will Emerson has played 63 matches at


this Club alone. He has a hectic schedule, sometimes with several games in a single day. Fabian Pensa and Laura Godwin are the logistical wizards behind the scenes,


making a schedule of this intensity possible. This dynamic duo is supremely organised, have an impressive system for offering water before, during and after horses play, and on occasion, have carrots at the ready for an indulgent, post-match treat. Undoubtedly a season highlight for Fabian and Laura was presenting the shimmering,


copper-coloured gelding,


Lotus, in the winner’s circle of the Hildon Archie David Cup Final to receive the Best Playing Pony blanket.

Laura’s passion for the ponies in her


care is evident for all to see. “We were over the moon to be recognised for our work, it’s really lovely” says Laura. “The ponies are such a big thing for me, I love them. Every one of Will’s ponies has their own character and a sense of humour. They’re just so funny and I love them.” Will is equally generous with praise


for his team: “I’m so lucky to have Laura and Fabian looking after the horses,” he said. “They work so hard and somehow keep the horses playing fantastically from May to the very end of September. They deserve a relaxing winter as much as the horses do!” Nobody would disagree! We wish all


of our grooms a restful winter, wherever they may spend it, for it won’t be too long until the new season begins, and they’ll be back on the sidelines, delivering pony perfection to our players.
