Robot cells, an autonomous thing, are already in use at some manufacturing facilities and have become increasingly more capable of interaction. As the CEO of a technology firm


which serves a specific manufacturing niche, I try to look at the long-term trends which will impact our business as well as serve the needs of our customers. Looking 5 years forward at strategic technology trends that I believe will continue to impact manufacturing, I foresee amazing benefits ahead of us. • Autonomous driving technology will improve trucking and shipping.


• Cloud will be distributed, and services will evolve that meet the growing needs of IoT.


• Data security will become increasingly critical for all aspects of your business – everything from employee information to customer order history.


• Mobile adoption will continue at an ever-faster pace. Your staff will expect information to be available to them


in a mobile format for all aspects of their job and the proliferation of RESTful APIs (REpresentational State Transfer Application Program Interfaces) will enable it.


• People-forward technologies will


prevail. (Think “technologies that make business simpler for your customers and help your employees be more efficient.”) How technology impacts customers, employee and business partners will be a critical growth consideration.


• Wearables will be mainstream as both as a communication medium and a mechanism for business feedback. We will talk to them and they will talk to other technology – ERP, email, and more.


• Voice technologies will not just be enabled but will be adaptive. Ready for two-way communication. As
