Japan

Japanese Trends of Investment Casting Market in 2019

by Fuyuhiko Urabe, Japan Foundry Inc. T

urnover of each sector in Japanese market is shown in Table 1. Figures 1 and 2 show the trends in monthly

production volume and turnover of each division in 2019.

Figure 3 shows the trends of total sales and production weight from 2000 to 2019 (predicted).

Comments on the trend of Japanese market in 2019 are shown below. 1) Sales in 2019 are estimated at 44.75 billion yen. The trends for each

product are described below.

IGT’s recovery in the fourth quarter of 2017 was taken over in 2018 and 2019, and sales are expected to increase by about 20% from the previous year. However, domestic demand is uncertain and trends in 2020 cannot be predicted. If this trend can be maintained, it will be a supporting factor for total sales.

Automobiles showed the highest sales in the country, but gradually declined in 2019 and were overtaken by GT in February. The year-on-year rate is expected to decrease by about 30%. The spread of EVs and hybrid vehicles, and a decrease in exports, are also likely to have an impact. It is thought that there will be no rapid increase factor in 2020.

On the other hand, sales of minor

products such as general machinery, aerospace / weapons, etc. have been -10% to 5% compared to 2018. There are many domestic consumption products. Production Sales in 2020 is expected to be around 45 billion.

2) External concerns:

In the process of a prolonged US-China trade war, demand trends

for investment castings are

becoming increasingly uncertain. 20 ❘ January 2020
