ISE Review ISE’s widening appeal
Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events, talks about ISE 2020, and why the show has become the ‘must attend’ event for users of AV technology as well as for AV industry professionals.
their existing and prospective channel partners. Today, ISE has become as much of a ‘must attend’ event for end-users as it is for the channel.” We’ve added substantially to our conference programme over the years, because end-users have told us they get enormous value not just from the opportu- nity to talk directly to manufac- turers and to find out about the products and technologies that will shape their companies’ AV strategy – but also to network and to learn from industry ex- perts and their peers.
“ISE has enjoyed year-on-year growth since it began. Will ISE 2020 be the biggest and best yet? Unquestionably. At the last ISE, we had over 81,000 visitors – and we expect more in 2020. In 2019, we had 56,100 sqm of net exhibit space, and that will increase in 2020 by over 800 sqm.” “Two important changes for
this year are that the Hall 5 extension has been made larg- er and permanent, while Hall 14 will be the location of three very different show features. First, it will be the home of a new Innovation Zone – a spe- cially designed area for com- panies that are new to ISE to showcase
their technology.
Second, the ISE Main Stage theatre will relocate to Hall 14 and will offer a full programme of free-to-attend thought lead- ership and best practice ses- sions from ISE, AVIXA and CEDIA. And third, an exciting new interactive ‘VR at ISE fea- ture’ will also be found in that hall.”
“Following the success of our spectacular projection map- ping on the nhow Hotel during ISE 2019, there will be anoth- er exciting projection show- case on the façade of the RAI’s Elicium building each evening during the week of ISE.” “Our Opening Address will be given by Duncan Wardle, former Head of Innovation and Creativity at Disney. He has some really interesting ideas about how all businesses can tap into their resources of imagination and creativity, and I’m really looking forward to hearing what he has to say.”
What’s new?
“All the conferences held at ISE 2019 will be back in 2020 – covering smart buildings, XR, digital signage, digital cin- ema, hospitality, visitor attrac- tions, stadiums and pro audio,
What are the challenges?
“One of the biggest is ensuring that visitors can easily locate what they’re looking for – and relevant exhibitors can eas- ily be found. One of the ways we’ve addressed that is with the creation of six Technolo- gy Zones – for audio and live events, digital signage and DooH, education, residential, smart buildings and unified communication. The Technol- ogy Zones mean that visitors can quickly locate the part of the show where they’ll find the technology and product trends that are most relevant to their interests.”
“The ISE app has proved a
big hit with visitors, and its wayfinding features are a key part of that.”
How has the visitor profile changed?
“Back when we first started, our audience almost exclusively comprised systems integrators and other AV channel profes- sionals. Increasingly, though, the show has become a des- tination for end-users; our ex- hibitors want to engage directly with them, as well as meeting
plus AVIXA’s two What's Next... conferences, focusing on enter- prise and higher education. In addition, we have a couple of new ones – the Control Rooms Summit and the CEDIA Design & Build Conference. Like in 2019, many of the conferences will be held at the Hotel Okura, near the RAI, which proved very popular with our attendees.” “As well as its conferences,
AVIXA is running 20-minute FlashTrack
sessions on its
stand. CEDIA has a four-day programme of training ses- sions, beginning on the Mon- day with a workshop on cyber- security, as well as hosting free CEDIA Talks on its stand.”
“ISE is owned by AVIXA and CEDIA, two trade associations with a focus on professional de- velopment – so education and training have always been an important part of the show. An- other priority for both associa- tions is reaching out beyond the industry, to other stakeholders within AV projects. Establishing and awarding professional qual- ifications plays an important part in establishing the exper- tise of the industry as a whole, as well as demonstrating the competency of the individuals who work in it.” “AVIXA and CEDIA are hugely instrumental in helping deliv- er the outstanding visitor and exhibitor experience that ISE has become, setting the tone and themes for the event and helping us continue to develop and create ever-more engaging content for our channel and var- ious vertical market end-users alike. Between them, the two associations provide a wealth of market intelligence, guidance and education initiatives, as well as many entertaining and thought-provoking opportuni- ties for development.”
What trends in technology should visitors look for?
“I think we’ll start to see AI permeate a number of AV ap- plications. It’s already being used in digital signage, but many see opportunities for it in other customer-centric applica-
“Our Special Interest Group programme is designed to bring attendees from specific key vertical market sectors to ISE, helping end-user technol- ogy buyers to meet technology vendors and solution partners. They’re the result of formal agreements between ISE and a variety of associations, media partners, companies and con- sultants, and they’re tailored to meet the information needs of the visiting executives with planned stand visits, presen- tations, networking events and dinners.”
How are AVIXA and CEDIA involved?
tions, such as hospitality. AI is also being used to improve the quality of meetings and collab- oration.”
“ISE 2020 will, I think, pro- vide evidence of the rise of LED-based screens. They have advantages over LCD – and prices are dropping rapidly. It will also be interesting to see the
progress that OLED
technology has made. Visitors should look out too for new generations of application-spe- cific projectors.”
How do you feel about the change of venue in 2021?
“The RAI has been a great venue for us for over a decade now, so of course, there’s some sadness: I’ll leave with many fond memories of our time there. It’s served us very well, and has been part of our rapid growth to become the world’s largest professional audiovisu- al event. The downside is that we’ve become too big for a convention centre even of the RAI’s size and facilities.” “However, I’m also excited. The Fira Barcelona is a fantas- tic facility and a much larger space, located in a very at- tractive destination. The move isn’t simply about growing the numbers: it’s about delivering a better-quality experience to our exhibitors and visitors.” “Attendees can find out more about what to expect in our new Catalan location in a special themed area between Halls 7 and 8, which we’re calling the ‘Hola Barcelona!’ Lounge. In addition, there will be a special event in the Forum on the last day of the show, also called ‘Hola Barcelona!’ where we will be looking forward to ISE 2021 but also celebrating our history, and saying ‘goodbye and thank you’ to Amsterdam and the RAI”
ISE 2020 pre-show announcements
More than 200 companies are exhibiting at ISE for the first time in 2020, ensuring that attendees have a refreshed selection of new solu- tions to explore. These new exhibitors cover a wide range of technol- ogies, markets and solutions. Among the sectors well represented in new ISE cohort is the world of audio, from which companies mak- ing their show debut include: Bluesound Professional; Funktion One Research; McIntosh Laboratory; Ultrasonic Audio Technologies; HP; DTEN and Konftel, a manufacturer of conferencing and collaboration solutions with its own OmniSound audio technology. AV News will feature as many of the 1340 exhibitors in its special Show Floor edition next month, as well as the early announcements below.
Peerless-AV showcases dvLED Innovations
Peerless-AV has announced it will be showcasing wow factor Direct View LED (DvLED) vid- eo wall solutions, including a curved floor to ceiling LED wall and an in-window LED wall on a floor track system at ISE 2020, Hall 12, Stand F90.
The 5x5 curved floor to ceiling LED video wall will use InfiLED DB Series deep black high defi- nition LED displays on a Peer- less-AV DvLED mount custom designed to a specific angle that positions each tile at 4-degrees, curving to a 16-degree angle at the top. The video wall will show partner content and link to a themed selfie station to engage with visitors.
The 3x5 in-window LED video wall will use Absen Acclaim A27 Series LED on a custom DvLED mount from Peerless-AV, which moves backwards and forwards on a floor track system. Ideal for retail in-window applications, the tracking system allows for easy front maintenance of the cabinets and convenient access to the window for cleaning. Peerless-AV’s DvLED mounts not only support curved con- figurations (concave and con- vex) and moveable (trolleys, pivots, floor and ceiling track), but adapt to a wide range of potentials, including recessed, front and rear serviceable, floor standing, floor to wall, floor to ceiling and ceiling suspended and more.
The mounts are precision engineered with display spe- cific adaptors and mounting patterns. An aluminium frame minimises wall load and pre- determined adaptor rail loca- tions speed up assembly, while tight tolerances and wall plate spacers ensure LED cabinets are positioned correctly. Ad- justment on the X, Y, and Z axis aligns pixels and smooths any installation irregularities. Depth adjustment at the rear of the frame also makes fine-tuning easier and facilitates a slimmer aesthetic design.
The mounts are part of SEAM- LESS by Peerless-AV, a one- of-a-kind design consultancy program for DvLED video wall integration. SEAMLESS makes the whole process of installing an LED video wall as smooth and straightforward as possible, from start to finish, no matter how complex or challenging the application. Partners and installers benefit from a choice of LED mounting solutions (uni- versal, custom and dedicated), together with a unique, all-in- clusive
support offering, in-
cluding design and engineering services, custom capability for indoor and outdoor, technical training and more. Visit Peerless-AV in Hall 12, F90 at ISE 2020. Register for free using the invitation code 705303:
