HEWETT RECRUITMENT 40TH ANNIVERSARY IN BUSINESS

With much to celebrate on the business front and change forecast for 2020, we caught up with Louise Hewett, founder of Hewett Recruitment. From changes in technology to getting the right person in the right seat, read on to find out more about recruitment across the area for 2020.

What does it mean to you to be approaching your 40th anniversary in business? It means a celebration is required! It’s the end of one chapter, and the beginning of another. I’m very proud of what we’ve all achieved so far and we have ambitious growth plans too. I believe our core values have played a huge part in our sustained success, they may have been tweaked slightly over the years but the belief in bringing together a team of talented people who act with integrity and love what they do goes a long way to creating value and providing a service that delivers. “Recruitment as it should be”.

What do you mean by recruitment as it should be? Well it’s not only about filling jobs. Our first task is often advising clients on how to enhance their employer brand to help attract and retain the best talent. Our in-house marketing resource works closely with clients, often creating PR opportunities, joint marketing campaigns, videos and sharing social media expertise. Recruitment is more of a science these days and our specialist consultants manage the process to secure that ‘elusive talent’ through their in-depth knowledge of their sectors, and the advanced technology and tools at their disposal.

Is CSR important to you? Our voluntary work in the community is part of what makes us tick. I think it’s in the genes. My mum was always getting involved in various charities and it’s just become part of who we are. Our team enjoy taking part in various activities - from jumping out of planes to marathons! in fact, we’re celebrating our 40th by raising 40k for local charities in 2020. This will culminate in a finale charity event next year and we’re all very excited about that!

Will it be hard to move into the Chairman role next year? Good question. To which I answer an emphatic NO. We’ve been preparing for this transition for the last couple of years – I now have two very dynamic and capable directors in the shape of my

daughter, Laura Hewett and Ben Mannion, who is virtually family – having been at primary school with Laura many moons ago. Over the last 12-months we’ve developed our plans for growth and moved to superb new offices to enable us to engage the best talent within our industry. Our team enjoy flexible working and supportive personal development enabling them to achieve excellence and autonomy in their role. We look forward to welcoming new specialists to our team particularly in the areas of Engineering and IT. I will keep my finger very much on the pulse of the business while Laura and Ben drive our plans forward with the team. Exciting times ahead!

How do you see the future of the recruitment industry evolving? In my role as director of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, I’m fortunate to play a small part in helping to shape the direction of the industry. I was also a founder member of the Future of Jobs Commission in London. It’s clear that our role will continue to evolve as we embrace technology and digitisation. New jobs and skills will emerge that haven’t even been thought of yet and others will become obsolete. It’s time for disruption before being disrupted; creating new workforce strategies and exposing untapped pools of talent for our clients. We recently enjoyed sharing our expertise with the top Worcestershire businesses at a series of consultations held by the WLEP. Our consultative role as trusted advisers to businesses has become an integral and valued support to employers looking to enhance, or work towards becoming employers of choice in this people competitive environment. We love technology, but our clients want knowledge, advice and support in this fast moving business environment. So, in answer to your question – it’s speed and efficiency of technology enabling more time for the consultative approach for business = ‘right person in the right seat’.
