Whilst HITT and spinning classes have been at the fore in 2019, 2020 predicted fitness trends promise to mix-up your workouts, some of which are good for the soul!

GROUP WORKOUTS


As we strive to be more sociable and make our 'me time' go that little further, group workouts are going to be popular. Working out with friends and colleagues not only increases bonding, but it also reduces some of the self-consciousness and anxiety that can be experienced when working out in front of strangers and let's face it, friends tend to keep us on-track too.


VARIETY IS KEY


Boutique workout studios used to be just a London offering, but they're now popping up across the UK and offering members a real mix of classes to keep them motivated and engaged in a wellness routine. People are seeking diversity in their precious off-duty time with classes that are both good for the body and soul.


WORKOUT FOR THE MIND...AND SOUL


Mental health and mindfulness grew in importance in 2019 and this year they will take centre stage. Boutique health clubs can take credit for starting the trend, but it's set to get legs in 2020. Prioritising our spiritual well-being and inner balance is equally important to our general fitness levels. Expect to see meditation, breathing and cryotherapy sit alongside HITT classes. Floatation tanks will grow in popularity too – if you've yet to try one, you're missing out!


HYBRID YOGA


We've had goat yoga, puppy yoga and even alpaca yoga... I know. Expect yoga to be combined with other experiences in 2020, not necessarily animals though, expect it mixed with sharp bursts of energy, which when combined with intense stretching makes one hell of a workout!


TECHNOLOGY


As technology becomes increasingly intrinsic to our lives, with watches that monitor our activity and wrist gadgets that regulate and maintain body temperature, we can expect to see a new wave of apps that help us to relax, sleep and motivate us. Shared online classes set to increase in popularity too.


SUPPLEMENT


Not strictly exercise, but supplements were hugely popular in 2019. From those that aid body functions such as the liver to those that boast collagen and repair tissue post workout. As people swap to vegan diets, there is a need to ensure the body still receives the nutrients and benefits that a diet inclusive of meat provides; supplements will no doubt be the answer.
