Beccles Twinning Association
DURING October half- term, three young people from Beccles and three from Worlingham went to Petit- Couronne their twin town in Normandy France, to take part in a multi-sports discovery tour organised by Beccles Twinning association
and
compete for the ‘Silver’ plate, donated by the Beccles and Bungay Journal in 1983. The group of mostly
first time visitors to Petit- Couronne, joined 14 French children of a similar age for the
IV Courronais holiday club, and took part in a variety of activities on the playing fields of the Stade Maurice Ragot. These
included Rugby and
Football skills, and a trip to the swimming pool in nearby Grand-Couronne. They were also shown around the local area and treated to Bowling as well as an initiation into the French martial art of Wa Jutsu. All the children were enthusiastic
participants and
their parents were happy to help the organisers and share
coaching skills ensuring that a good time was had by all. This year the plate
won by Petit-Couronne, and the Twinning Association are
already making plans
for next year when they will host a much larger group of visitors of all ages from Petit- Couronne. Everyone who lives, works or is otherwise associated with Beccles is welcome to get involved and to come along and watch the next ‘Plate challenge’ in October 2020.
