Chilly outlook for Ceva at London Gateway

Ceva Logistics, recently acquired by shipping line CMA CGM, has officially opened its new cold chain facility at DP World London Gateway. The 10,000sq m Chill Hub offers up to 10,000 pallet positions with seven independent chambers capable of operating from -25°C through to +16°C. Dedicated areas will handle

pharmaceuticals, fresh and frozen produce, beverages and flowers as well as other goods requiring temperature specific handling and storage. Labelling, boxing, re-palletising,

price coding, tagging and kitting are also available. The facility is close to the

dockside so shunting can take as little as two hours, says Ceva. Chief executive, Nicolas Sartini,

said: “With its excellent road and rail connections, our best in class warehouse management systems and direct port access, the Chill Hub is a powerful demonstration of the synergies between Ceva Logistics and CMA CGM. This state-of-the-art facility will enable us to offer a unique value proposition to our shipper customers, providing a faster delivery of goods through an energy-efficient building. We can also give full visibility and control of the entire inbound operation through the Chill Hub.”

DSV Panalpina moves to mitigate merger effects

The DSV Panalpina Group has told employees at the former Panalpina headquarters in Basel that overlapping corporate functions and positions will either be cut or relocated to the headquarters in Denmark, with up to 165 job losses. But at the same time, the company intends to expand its footprint in the Basel area.

logistics DSV Panalpina chief executive

Jens Bjørn Andersen explained: “As we integrate Panalpina into the DSV Panalpina Group, we recognise that there are substantial duplications of corporate functions. We are also seeing considerable overlaps in the IT department, as IT systems that will no longer be used in the combined

group are phased out. As a result, we are considering several restructuring measures. According to our analysis, we will not be able to avoid job cuts and the relocation of positions to DSV Panalpina’s headquarters in Denmark.” However, DSV Panalpina

expects to retain around half of Panalpina’s current head office workforce by the completion in the second quarter of 2020. A social plan has been drawn up, in line with Swiss labour law to

Join the village people with BIFA at Multimodal

The British International Freight Association is partnering with the Multimodal Exhibition and Conference to create a Freight Forwarders Village at the show. It will be a marketplace for BIFA members and associate members to showcase the products and

services they offer. BIFA will expand its existing

presence to set up the village in a prominent part of the exhibition hall. It will provide a networking marketplace where show visitors can learn more about the workings of the trade association

and the benefits of membership, whilst discussing their day-to-day freight forwarding requirements with actual BIFA members. It will also feature bespoke
