Groupage operator Transmec UK has appointed Imran Mohammed as its new branch manager at its West Thurrock headquarters. Mohammed, who

logistics company for 18 years, was previously UK finance director. UK general manager, John Simkins, said: “Imran is
the ideal person to help us build on
the record results we achieved last year. He has an in-depth knowledge of the business and knows the team at West Thurrock extremely well. “He is also well placed
to help clients manage the implications of Brexit, having been instrumental in our planning and the achievement of full Authorised Economic Operator status.”

Sheerness and Dover. Work could include creating
more space for HGV parking and container storage as well as improving vehicle access.

The fund comes as part of a £30 million government scheme to bolster ports across England and ensure they continue to operate efficiently post-Brexit. Alongside the £10 million
PIRC fund, the DfT has provided £5 million to Local Resilience Forums
in areas with key
freight ports to help them build infrastructure improvements and ensure traffic continues to flow smoothly. A further £15 million will go
towards the development of longer-term projects to boost road and rail links to ports. This includes a proposal
to gauge-enhance the Trans- Pennine rail route for freight and development work for upgrading road access to Dover, Felixstowe and Southampton ports.

The Freight Transport Association says it has helped secure an agreement between the UK and Morocco to double road freight permits doubled between the two nations in 2020. FTA’s manager of international transport and trade procedures, John Lucy, was invited by the Department of Transport (DfT) to share his knowledge at a recent meeting of the Joint Transport Committee. He commented: “As one of the few UK based individuals with an in-depth understanding of the Moroccan freight industry, I am pleased to have been able to assist in this specialised area of international road freight.”

Middlesbrough-based AV Dawson has offi cially opened a

Maritime Transport has put two new Konecranes straddle carriers into operation at its Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT). With a four-high capacity they will provide faster, more reliable loading and unloading containers. Maritime acquired BIFT in 2014 as part of the Roadways Container Logistics deal, and has increased the terminal’s operation from one daily service to fi ve. It says that turnaround times are some of the best in the industry.
