Wincanton is considering a bid for multimodal transport and logistics operator Eddie Stobart. However, Stobart’s largest shareholder DBAY Advisors is also considering buying the whole company. It follows a troubled time for Eddie Stobart. Chief executive Alex Laffey stood down in the summer following an accounting error that overstated profits by £2 million, leading to a collapse in its share price.
Immingham-based container haulier Humber Ports Logistics is to open a new Hull depot. It follows new contract agreements and increases in volume from existing customers. The company now operates a fleet of 100 vehicles in operation and over 150 container chassis.
Once safely secured to the
79.5m long trailer, at 10pm Collett made the 30 mile trip from the
Port of Dover arriving six and a half hours later at the Sellindge Substation site in Ashford, Kent.

Consolidator Unsworth has appointed Richard Hogg as its new managing director. He will oversee the relaunch of Unsworth’s digital rate platform Cargocost, together with a suite of digital tools. A chartered shipbroker, he has worked alongside his brother Charles, with particular focus on finance, technology and human resources.
Former managing director of Dachser Air and Sea Logistics’ Asia Pacific region Edoardo Podestá has become chief operations officer. He replaces Jochen Müller who has agreed not to extend his contract when it expires in 2020, but will stop working for Dachser with immediate effect. Podestá joined Dachser in 2003 as part of the management team for the Züst Ambrosetti Far East joint venture aſter Dachser had taken full control.
Swiss-based forwarder Militzer & Münch Group has signed a joint venture with Serbian logistics company Invictus System Transport and Logistics to expanding its network in the Balkans. The partners say they aim to become a leading forwarder in the country within the next two years. The JV will initially focus on road transport but will add airfreight and sea freight, warehousing, intermodal traffic and project transport. Managing director of the joint venture is Filip Simovic, previously head of transport operations at Invictus.
Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has opened its first own air and sea freight branch in France, at Villepinte, close to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The network in France will be expanded further with the opening of additional branches, it added. Hellmann will continue to cooperate with its French partner Heppner to develop land transport between Germany and France as well as in the joint management of a logistics location near Paris.
Port of Dunkerque has inaugurated a secure access corridor for heavy goods vehicles waiting to check in at the terminal. It has also introduced a drone-monitored Perimeter Fence Surveillance System and is the first system in Europe licensed to fly drones over private sites out of direct sight of the operator, by day and by night. Tilbury shows its hand with new pontoon

Logistics company Allport Cargo Services has launched a single-use plastic policy as part of its ‘Doing well by doing good’ Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) strategy. The company, part of logistics group EV Cargo, aims to reduce its use of avoidable single-use plastics and replace them with viable and sustainable alternatives, with a view to complete elimination. Other initiatives include removing over 51,000 single-use plastic seals used by its fleet and replacing them with a digital solution and replacing brown plastic packing tape with a paper-based option.
