The BEST and coolest terminal in the whole Med


The Ports of Sines and Algarve Authority have welcomed the Portuguese Government’s go- ahead for the new Vasco da Gama Terminal and the expansion of the existing Terminal XXI. The investments could turn Sines into a major world port in the world and particularly in the West Med region, with a total capacity of 7m teu a year, they said. The €547 million Terminal


XXI scheme comprises not only the expansion of the quay and its handling equipment, but also the maintenance, replacement and renovation of existing equipment. It will expand storage


area from 42 to 60 hectares, as well as increase handling capacity from 2.3 million teu to 4,1 million teu a year, allowing simultaneous berthing of four latest-generation container ships, as well as creating 900 jobs. Construction of the new


Vasco da Gama Terminal would represent a further investment of around €642m, to be made by the future concessionaire. It will have an annual handling capacity of 3 million teu and a 1.375m long quay, allowing three simultaneous berth positions for the largest ships, 46 hectares of storage area, 15 quay gantries and a draſt of 17.5 m.
