The Peitz Cancer Support House has helped cancer patients for more than 20 years.
Valuable resources The Peitz Cancer Support House, which is the first in the
row of BRMC support houses off Hospital Drive in Mountain Home, offers free resources for anyone who has been diag- nosed with any type of cancer. “When you are diagnosed with cancer, you are in a fog,” Me-
lissa says. “You don’t hear anything but that one word from the doctor.”
One support house room is devoted to binders of informa- tion with cancer-specific resources. Each binder includes treatment options for each type of cancer, side effects of treat- ments, information about how to eat before, during and after treatments, and a list of questions survivors may want to ask their doctors. It also includes trusted phone numbers, web- sites and financial resources. It’s important to come to the Peitz Cancer Support House to
get information right away, because often patients will be asked to make decisions and schedule surgeries quickly after a diagnosis. “That’s why people should come here immediately for in-
formation,” Melissa says. “It gives people knowledge of what they’re facing when they’re afraid of the unknown.”
