Well, trying not to focus on the mess within the political world is like trying not to swat a fly that keeps buzzing around your head, or worse still, your dinner plate! I've witnessed friends bickering about it, highlighting their contrasting political persuasions; it's charged, divisive and a downright mess. I have to say though that the one rule of being able to successfully negotiate is the ability to walk away from the table, take that away and you're never going to have the upper hand – maybe politicians should take their cue from business people...

Politics aside, October is pink through and through; it is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the opportunity to shine a light on the great work of breast cancer charities, surgeons and fundraisers alike. More importantly, it’s the opportunity to urge everyone to check their breasts for lumps or any other peculiarities. With this in mind, if you turn to page 26 & 27 you'll find out exactly how to do it. Take time to read it, refresh yourself on the signs to look for, do it regularly and tell all your girlfriends and male friends as well… yes breast cancer doesn't just pick on women, men can get it too!
Dare I say it, we also have the first of our Christmas Gift Guides in this issue – now that cheered you up didn't it? From jewellery and beauty for her, fashion and accessories for him and, not my favourite type of gift I must admit, although popular with many, practical gifts too. There's also plenty of inspiration for your festive gatherings, so book early to avoid disappointment!
