Rehab centre is rated good
A REHABILITATION centre for people battling alcohol and drug addiction has been rated ‘good’ overall by a health servicewatch- dog. KenwardHouse in Yaldingwas
praised by theCareQualityCom- mission (CQC) for acting on its recommendations after an earlier report flagged up areas in need of improvement. Following a comprehensive re-
inspection, the CQC confirmed the majority of staff had com- pleted training on risk assess-
ment.Workwas also taking place to improve the decor in the bed- rooms and ensure repairswere at- tended to. Changes had been made to im-
prove the admissions process, to make sure the servicewas able to meet the needs of clients, and how to respond if clients dis- charged themselves early. An in- spection by the fire service also confirmed the venuewas compli- antwith the law. The CQC praised social enter-
prise projects available to support clients’ returning to independent living, adding: “Clients said staff treated them with compassion, dignity and respect. They said staff were supportive in their re-
covery journey and the treatment had changed their life.” As a consequence, Kenward
House was rated good, but still required improvement on safety. A spokesman for the Kenward
Trust, which runs the facility, said reduced funding had been at the heart of its earlier poor showing. “At Christmas, we secured a
bank loan based on our vision and business plan to refurbish our accommodation and develop new revenue streams to enable this life saving work to continue,” she said. “This work was about to start when the CQC inspected, whichwas unfortunate timing. She continued: “However, the
inspection rating us as good pro- vision reflects the hard work and investmentwe have put into pro- viding the best rehab service, and our success rates speak for them- selves. “We now have a training man-
agerwith an action plan to ensure all our staff have the necessary training to keep our residents safe and on their recovery journey. “It is alsoworth noting that our
social enterprise provision was rated ‘outstanding’ by the CQC, and this is pivotal to our recovery programme.”
