Harleston and District U3A
FOR the past few years, Harleston and District U3A have
contributed to the
attractions of the Harleston Festival which is held every August. This year the time of our
usual monthly meeting has been changed from the third to the second Wednesday of the month to fit in with the Festival.
The Ukulele Band will be giving a free concert at 3pm on Tuesday, 20th August in King George’s Hall and the Waveney Valley Study Group (our
largest interest group)
will be presenting “Windmills of the Waveney Valley” at 2.30pm on Wednesday, 21st August at the same venue.
Have you thought about giving membership of U3A a try? The annual fee is modest and there are more than twenty different interest groups. You can widen your circle of friends, enjoy days out and altogether make your “third age” (ie semi or full retirement) more enjoyable. Sunday (July 21). She is hoping to raise as much money as she can for Children’s Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) a charity which has become very important to her and her family since her three year old great- grandson, Noah, was born with the rare liver disease PFIC type 1.

that your baby has a life- changing liver disease it feels very lonely, scary and your world is turned upside down,” says Susan’s grandson James Gower, 33. CLDF were there for us with information and support which we found really helpful. Currently, thanks to the amazing hospital teams, Noah is doing really well, he takes his medicine every day and is progressing like any other child. But we want to know that CLDF will be there to support him as he grows up. “As a family we are keen to raise funds and awareness for the charity, as so many people are unaware that liver disease is something which affects children. It was my Nan’s idea to host a garden party. And as she has a lovely garden, we jumped at the chance!”

ONELIFE Suffolk take to the water at the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival in Lowestoft on Saturday 31st August. With just six weeks to go until Oulton Broad in Lowestoft reverberates to the sound of beating drums and splashing paddles, there is still time to get your team together and join in the annual East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival.
More than 20 teams are expected to battle it out in the spectacular races on Saturday 31st

The team at OneLife are committed to improving local people’s health and wellbeing and are looking forward to the positive health benefits their participation will bring. Adult Weight Management Practitioner, Ann Cottingham has been the driving force behind their entry and the event is a walk in the park for Ann these days after successfully losing 4 stone 7lbs. Ann tells us, “After have my two children, I went up to a size 20/22 then decided to make a change, so I began calorie counting and increasing activity. Since losing weight, I have done a skydive, completed the Yorkshire three peaks, walked a marathon and I am now working towards a four-day trek through Italy and the national three peaks. My confidence has grown so much and now I work with OneLife Suffolk to help others to be the best person they can be, improve their selfconfidence and achieve their goals. I am so passionate about what I do, we only get one life, and we have to make the most of it!" As well as participating in the races, the NHS Health Check team from OneLife Suffolk will be offering free screenings throughout the day designed to help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Vintage Farming Day
WE are arranging Dentill a vintage farming day in Denton on September 1st. It is a family day which allows you to experience a bygone era in action, with lots of different activities including: Troshing display, working tractors, static tractors, vintage vehicles, heavy horses, craft and trade stalls, food and bar,
to take part, just plenty of team spirit and enthusiasm. The 30’ dragon boats qualified helms and all racing equipment are provided by race organisers, Gable Events and each crew is guaranteed a minimum of three races.
Many of the teams will be raising money for their favourite charity and a whole host of good causes are set to benefit. The Festival sponsored by Warner Leisure Hotels, promises a day for competitors
