t’s a pleasure for me that I can write again in this amazing magazine! Tis time I want to talk about the


subject of your first purchase in Spain. In my opinion the best purchase to


start your Spanish dream would be an apartment, so you can understand and get used to the procedures and taxes in Spain. Many of my new clients don’t realize that the procedures in Spain are very different to those in their own country. Tat’s why I always highly recommend to hire the services of a lawyer here in Spain to deal with your purchase as they are obviously extremely familiar with purchasing property here in Spain.

Tere are so many choices when it comes to where to purchase. Some people like a little cute village, while other clients want to be in the middle of a crowded town. Don’t forget to think about how many people will be using the property. Did you want the use of a Swimming Pool? Do you need to be close to the beach, or are you looking more inland? Remember, normally the larger the


property, the more costs you may create. What should be very important to any agency you deal with would be to sit down and speak to you, to find out everything that you like and dislike, so they can build up a “wish list” of your requirements. Tis way they won’t waste your time and focus all their energy on finding you your perfect property. I always like to introduce my clients to the bank when they need a mortgage, It’s a more personal service, but I know my

clients get the benefit of being able to speak directly to a lender, and they also feel more confident as they can speak to someone they have actually met on the phone when they are back home. It’s important that your lawyer comes recommended, and I also think it’s important to introduce my clients to the right lawyer and also be able to help at the notary. It’s also very important to speak to people with experience when it comes to building licences. My family have been buying and selling property here in Spain for over 25 years, and are always on hand to speak to clients about licences for extending or changing their property, it’s a bit of a minefield, but with the right people advising you, then it makes things a lot easier.
