Have your say on new Toolbox Talks
ur Toolbox Talks have now finished for 2019 after delivering even more invaluable
technical updates the length and breadth of Scotland. Nearly 300 Members
attended the ever-popular free events at 12 locations around the country, ranging from Shetland in the north to Dumfries in the south. This year’s Talks also included our first trip to Islay. Topics up

for discussion at the sessions included RCD selection, fire detection and alarm systems, and Building Standards, with our Technical team on hand to offer advice. Dave Forrester, Head of
Technical Services, said: “Our Toolbox Talks continue to go from strength to strength, and we’re delighted to see so many Members turning out. “We are already planning
next year’s event, and would welcome Members’ thoughts on any technical topics they would like to see covered.”
SELECT hikers step up to help charity with President’s Walk
FUNDRAISING PLAN IS A PIECE OF CAKE
SELECT raised plenty of dough for good causes in a recent charity bake-off. Staff cooked up a host
of tasty sweet and savoury goodies, which were then raffled off at
Te Walled Garden on Wednesday 19 June. Te event raised a total
of £58, with the funds shared equally between the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland.
Members invited to free industry update from Rudi Klein
SELECT Members are invited to a free seminar by Professor Rudi Klein, who will deliver the latest news on industry payment and practices. In his talk, called An Update On
Where We Are And Where We Might Be Going, Professor Klein will give an update about payment in the construction sector including the

future of retentions and the use of Project Bank Accounts. As Chief Executive of the Specialist
Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group, Professor Klein is a revered figure in the construction sector and particularly well known for trying to improve payment practices. Te seminar will start at 5.30pm on
Wednesday 9 October at MacRoberts LLP, Capella, 60 York Street, Glasgow. Tis is likely to be a popular event
