SELECT has described the latest research into the ongoing scourge of late payment as a wake-up call for the Scottish economy. Te study by the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group
Scotland says SMEs in the construction supply chain are still suffering from poor payment performance and Scottish Government initiatives have not yet had a major impact. It found more than 60 per cent of public bodies amended
payment provisions in the standard forms of construction contract. Te figure for the private sector was 69 per cent. Only 28 per cent of firms reported being paid by public bodies within 30 days, with the private sector figure at 24 per cent. Alan Wilson, Managing Director of SELECT, said: “Tese findings are genuinely shocking.”

Tee-rific return for winning golf team
Te East of Scotland were again the big winners at this year’s SELECT President’s Cup golf competition. Captained by Mike Morrison
from MGM Fire & Electrical Services Ltd in Perth, the triumphant team retained the trophy at Dunblane New Golf Club on Monday 20 May. After soup and rolls, some
29 golfers teed off at 1pm, with the winners receiving their prizes in the clubhouse following a high tea. Competitors
includes Members, guests and SELECT personnel including President Kevin Griffin, Head of Resources John McGhee and former
Managing Director Newell McGuiness. Following this year’s
successful event, the next President’s Cup will be held on Monday 18 May 2020.
