Summer Social Season TRENDS 2019
If you have tickets to Goodwood, Wimbledon or any of the other brilliant outdoor events to enjoy this summer, your make-up will be under the scrutiny of daylight - always a tricky lighting to master. Your best bet would be to make sure to apply your make-up in natural light - or as natural as you can. Migrate to windows rather than bathrooms; be aware of the overhead lighting in there as this will create shadows under the eyes, and you will probably end up overdoing the concealer. Wearing a lot of make-up in the heat and uncontrollable environment of the outdoors is never a good idea, so it's always best to keep it simple. Luckily, that keeps you bang on trend, as the hair and make-up we saw in the S/ S19 shows and make-up campaigns are all about keeping it natural and beautiful.
Here are a few of the latest trends to dabble in, and some of the newest and best products I’ve discovered to help achieve these looks.
COLOUR POP EYELINER
The prettiest of all the looks, as seen at Christian Siriano, is a simple coloured eyeliner that really makes a statement. Dior have the best matte eyeliner felt tip pens, hands-down, that come in white, yellow, pink, blue or black and glide on easily. Leave the rest of the skin glowing and fresh-faced with nude lips. To really pump it up, use a matching or even colour-clashing mascara, but this doll-like trend is only for the brave.
GLOSSY SKIN
One of the biggest trends across the runways was glossy skin, paired with sheer minimal make-up in neutral and nude shades. Nude in this sense doesn't have to mean boring; it can be incredibly chic. Prep your skin the night before by gently exfoliating and using a mask according to your skin type. Use an under-eye cream like Caudalie Premier Cru The Eye Cream which is infused with soft-focus pigments. This will give you a natural-looking glow that leaves eyes looking subtly brighter without looking like you've piled on concealer. Another product from Caudalie I've been loving is the Premier Cru Precious Oil. This is a dry oil formula that absorbs beautifully into your skin. Wear alone, after using serum, or mix it into moisturiser or foundation to give such a beautiful glow to the skin. With skin this good your foundation can be replaced by a lighter CC or BB cream, allowing the skin to breathe rather than swamping it in unnecessary coverage.
GOLDEN SMOKY EYES
The golden smoky eyes at Tom Ford’s '70s-inspired show are a brilliant way to add some drama to an evening event without having to go too dark and oppressive with colour. Eyeliner and eyeshadow were blended together using the Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in Golden Mink for smouldering definition which still brightens the eye. For added drama, cover the eyeshadow with a thin layer of eyegloss for a hazy, amped-up metallic sheen.
CORAL LIPS
Seen at Chanel, this pop of coral was so vibrant and fresh that it had everyone talking. The best part? The colour really did suit every skin tone. To make this lipstick last all night, and deliver the same punch of colour, be sure to apply, blot and reapply. Do so several times if necessary, until you achieve the stained, juicy effect you desire.
HAIR COLOUR CONDITIONER
To make your hair colour appear even more beautiful, Leonor Greyl have collaborated with top hair colourist Stephane Pous to launch a natural and protective conditioning treatment. Made with 96% natural ingredients it comes in five shades with undertones to enhance your hair colour. The best part is how easy it is to use - simply use in place of your regular conditioner! Apply after shampoo, leave on for two minutes and rinse out. It doesn’t cover grey hairs, but it will give both natural or coloured hair a kick and an envy-inducing shine to make heads turn. Like the best fake tans, it will make you radiate that healthy, polished energy - don't be surprised if your friends ask if you've been away somewhere nice.
