Leisure centre trust takes on stage school

THE people behind Larkfield’s leisure centre are branching out into showbiz. The charitable, not-for-profit

Tonbridge and Malling Leisure Trust, also known as tmactive, is widely recognised for its extensive swimming and fitness classes, but nowit’s brushing up on pirouettes and jazz hands. The organisation has announced

it will take the helm of the Prima Stage School fromSeptember. Principal Julie Hutchings says

shewill stay on at the school to run classes after the takeover. “Prima has enjoyedmany years

of excellent relationshipwithtmac- tive, and I felt the timewas right to consider the future of the school and for it to continue to flourish. “I approached tmactive to see if

theywould be prepared to take on the school andtherewas no hesita- tion on their part to accept.” Although the programme will

remain largely unchanged, tmac- tive says it will introduce a few tweaks to improve pupil progres- sion through the school and in- crease payment options. Prima – which runs classes in

Larkfield and Kings Hill – offers dance courses for children of all ages, as well as musical theatre, drama and singing. The school regularly invites top

London choreographers to run workshops in all areas of perform-

ance, and encourages students to audition for outside companies such as the English Youth Ballet andNational Youth Ballet. Martin Guyton, tmactive’s chief

executive, said: “We are delighted to be taking over the operation of Prima Stage School. “It’s our aimto support Julie and

her team, so they can continue to deliver their innovative teaching programme and retain their excel- lent reputation.”
