///IT Kuehne + Nagel takes the pledge

Kuehne + Nagel has launched a new offering, KN Pledge, describing it as “the first online sea freight service solution with guaranteed lead time in container shipping”. KN Pledge, designed for full load

booking

comes with a ‘100% money-back guarantee’ if those guaranteed lead times are not met. The service promise also

incorporates an extended cargo liability covering a wide range of causes of damage, with up to US$100,000 per container on offer. Causes covered include amongst others fire, explosion, act of God and act of war. K+N Pledge comes as part of a package of instant pricing and

carbon footprint offset through

K+N’s Sea Explorer online booking portal. K+N claims to be the first logistics service provider to provide all these offerings in one online package. “With KN Pledge, Kuehne +

Nagel provides peace of mind for the customer’s supply chain with a guaranteed lead time for full container transportation that covers all delivery combinations from port-to-port to door-to-door,” a statement from the logistics giant asserted. In the event that a delay becomes unavoidable, customers who have booked KN Pledge won’t pay the freight charges. The service also offsets

the carbon footprint of any shipment Digital from the get go

Get Go Global (GO), a digital solutions provider for the logistics industry based in Singapore, has launched GO FREIGHT, which it describes as “the first on-demand freight forwarding platform with a trusted freight forwarder network for B2B [business to business] freight shipments across ASEAN [the Association of South- East Asian Nations region] and beyond”.

GO FREIGHT’s capabilities

include on-demand search, quotations

and bookings to

over 37 destinations across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. It expects to double the number of destinations covered on the freight rate quote platform over

the coming year. According to Get GO Global,

trade volumes across ASEAN have reached 90 million teu and 5 million tonnes of ocean and air freight a year, set to grow further as a result of rising urbanisation, higher disposable incomes and consumer demand. The GO platform is designed the needs of

to meet freight

forwarders and their shipper customers for a rapid digitalised methodology to managing their supply chain. “Through GO FREIGHT, customers can access online freight forwarding services anywhere, anytime,” it says. Moreover, GO FREIGHT “puts

customers in control of their supply chain”, with its on-demand

on behalf of the customers via contributions to the development of four nature-based projects in Indonesia, Kenya and Peru. KN Pledge is an extension of the

forwarder’s online quote, book and track and trace capabilities, with its online Sea Explorer platform offering customers real-time automated quotations. Customers can then book their FCL shipments and track their cargo via the one platform. Otto Schacht (pictured), the

member of the Managing Board of Kuehne + Nagel International responsible for seafreight, declares: “What is special about this Kuehne + Nagel online service solution is that it enables our customers to

services currently incorporating instant competitive quotations to over 12 destinations; custom quotations available to a further 25 destinations across Asia; quotation to booking turnaround in

just one or two days; the

GO N3twork of trusted freight forwarders; and on-demand shipment tracking from start to end. Au Kah Soon, CEO of GO,

considers: “Businesses and logistics service providers can reap huge benefits by using online platforms to take advantage of fast-growing regional trade and e-commerce trends. “The GO FREIGHT platform

addresses the urgent need for supply chains to digitalise in order to match the speed of doing business today and the future. Customers get instant services,

The service we get from Forward Computers is always friendly, courteous and delivered in a professional manner. I would have no reservations in recommending FCL to anyone.

Mick Robinson, IT Director, MIQ Logistics Rapid development

Au tells FBJ that Get Go Global spent about 12 months developing GO FREIGHT, including three months of planning and creating the online and offline blueprints for the platform. GO could have chosen to outsource the platform’s design and development, or it could have chosen to take on the job itself. “Frankly, we looked at both

options and decided to design and develop it ourselves,” Au says. “By doing so, we had tremendous flexibility to create a single seamless platform from the ground up. We own the intellectual property and managed the development work.” Furthermore: “We took the

time to combine over 70 years of logistics experience to roadmap our development for the next three years,” he informs. GO FREIGHT is now live and

accessible on any device and the user base is growing, says Au. Initially, GO FREIGHT will offer just full container load (FCL) and less-than-container load (LCL) for ocean freight, but its ‘future roadmap’ is to also cover air and land shipping.

receive offers for FCL in addition to LCL shipments within seconds – from virtually any point in the world to any other point with an additional guaranteed lead time.”

An answer to customer needs

Looking back on the origins of KN Pledge, Schacht tells FBJ: “KN Pledge is Kuehne + Nagel’s answer to the customer’s needs for instant pricing and more reliability in FCL shipping. Vessel schedule reliability is low, with more than 30% of vessels arriving late. This can lead to production delays, unbalanced inventory levels or increased operating costs. With KN

flexibility and tracking of their shipments on one platform. Meanwhile, forwarders join a broadened network and a new online sales channel at no additional cost.”

Pledge Kuehne + Nagel now can guarantee a lead time and provides additional peace of mind with the money back guarantee.” The service benefits from the

technological developments that have enabled the extensive capabilities of Sea Explorer, he notes, observing: “Due to big data and the machine learning mechanisms of

Sea Explorer, Already covering 37

destinations across the ASEAN/ Far East region, there are plenty of thoughts regarding possible expansion. “We plan to cover the ASEAN region and the Indian sub- continent in phases,” Au informs. “At a macro level, GO FREIGHT and our trusted freight forwarder network will eventually cover a market of more than 3 billion people across ASEAN, China and India. “Asia [will remain] home base

and immediate focus,” but, beyond Asia, “We are open to working with like-minded companies or organisations in other regions to expand our coverage. “For example, we have teamed

up with Fast Track Trade to cross-promote GO FREIGHT in Singapore and Indonesia. Fast Track Trade is Singapore’s first digital trade platform for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) using blockchain technology.” Numerous improvements to

the platform are to be made over the coming months and years. Au says that GO FREIGHT was created with the goal of helping customers, especially smaller companies, access on-demand freight forwarding as easily as booking a flight, car or food delivery. With this goal in mind, Get Go

Global is to focus on a few key areas of development in the coming months including expanding its trusted freight forwarder network across ASEAN and Asia across

Kuehne + Nagel was able to build KN Pledge based on realistic lead times.” Schacht previously told FBJ

that demand for products such as Sea Explorer is only likely to grow. “Sea freight supply chain planning will always be a challenge, with [so many] reliability issues and uncertainties,” he believes. “Sea Explorer helps customers

to manage these uncertainties and supply chain risks much better. This will then help customers to reduce lead times, to better manage inventory levels and decrease the carbon footprint of their supply chain,” he considers. “Digital innovations are at the

top of Kuehne + Nagel’s agenda and we are continuing to drive them forward. Stay tuned for further innovations,” Schacht adds.

multiple modes. It

will also integrate with

other online platforms to create a seamless supply chain to overcome specific pain points, such as customs clearance. For example, GO FREIGHT is currently in the process of integrating with the Networked Trade Platform, a national initiative in Singapore to digitalise and re-use trade documentation. It will work with like-minded

companies to create an on- demand logistics eco-system in areas such as warehousing, trade compliance and trade-related services. And, at the top level:

“Early on, we concluded that the convergence

of online

connectivity, billions of IoT devices and on-demand cloud computing power would fundamentally change how businesses deliver goods and services to end-consumers,” Au notes. “That means no supply chain will be untouched. GO and the GO FREIGHT platform were created to address this pressing business need for on-demand freight forwarding. “What makes GO different is that we work with

and

complement existing logistics service providers. Our approach, technology and platform is aimed at growing the pie so everyone can enjoy a larger slice – customers, logistics service providers and GO.”
