PLEASE take your blue tokens in Tesco’s and pop them in the box for Music@malling. The money they get goes towards fantastic work with children from local primary schools composing music, which they will then performed in a series of concerts at St Marys Church, West Malling, in September. The children work with professional musicians and artists, learning about composition, and playing instruments in an orchestra with professionals and conductor Tom Kemp. They also have fantastic fun.

THE Community Larder in East Malling distributes food every Friday at 10am from the Chapman Way Centre. The larder is different from a food bank. The Fairshare Charity delivers surplus supermarket goods to the centre each week. These include fresh meat, cheese, veg and fruit as well as tins and packets.

Having taken what is needed for the community cafe, the rest is distributed to local residents on a “take what you need, pay what you can basis”. The delivery arrives on Friday mornings. There is no need for a referral or any restrictions on number of visits. Most people pay something- £5 a bag is the expected donation. But if someone is really hard up, the food is given away, or the larder takes smaller donations.
