‘Banksy’mystery gives pupils a fresh project

A MYSTERY artist daubed a Banksy-stylemural across a class- room wall while pupils were away on their spring break. The 655 youngsters and staff at

Loose Primary School were gobs- mackedwhen they returnedto les- sons to find a potentially iconic masterpiece splashed over two- storeys. The graffiti art portrays a young

girl writing the words “you're never too young to dreambig”. Staff admit they have no idea if

the piece is a genuine Banksy or an act of vandalism. Initial enquiries, however, have unearthed CCTV footage of a figure close to the site of the artwork between 8.30pm and10.30pmonMonday,April 15. The footage has been shown to the children. Head teacher DarrenWebb said

the youngsters have now been taskedwith finding outwho is be- hind themural. He said: “Children are looking

into who could have done this, as part of a big literacy project we’re working on in school. We’ve taken this opportunity to learn more about graffiti art, and debate whether this is art or vandalism. “It has attracteda lot ofmedia at-

tention, aswell asparents andlocal communitymembers. This is anin- novative way to develop the cur- riculum and is a fantastic opportunity for the pupils.” Arguably themost controversial
