AQHA hosted its 2019 conventionMarch 8-11 in Fort
Worth. During the General Membership Meeting, Gill Galyean, Purcell, OK, was recognized as the Don Burt Professional Horseman of the Year and Chele McGauly, Elm Grove, LA, as the AQHA Professional Horsewoman of the Year. Hall of Fame inductees were recognized at Sunday’s banquet, includ- ing stallions Harlan, Mr Jess Perry, Tiger Leo and Zippos Mr Good Bar and the mares Trippy Dip (TB) and Vital Signs Are Good, and humans Billy Allen, Johnne Dobbs, the late J.M. Frost III, the late Hans Hansma, and Jim Jennings. Finally, the 2019-2020 Executive Committee was elected, including Pres- ident Stan Weaver (MT), First VP F.E. “Butch” Wise (OK), Second VP Norman Luba (KY), as well as members Dr. Scott Myers (KY) and Ken Banks (TX).
Barrel Racing Association of TXpaid out $10,115.99 at
the March 9 event in Cleburne. Kelli Barrichello won the Open 1D with 14.677 on Dats Last Frenchman.
CAQHA’s first ranch horse showof the year, held March
9 at Dripping Springs Ranch Park, was record breaking, with reining starting at 8 am and the Don Blazer Scholarship Trail Class ending around 11 pm! HPs were Saryn Paulsen (18&u/Shesa Eddie Rey Rab), Susan Morris (Am-19&o + Jr- Horse/Rusty Dun It Smooth), Pam Johnson (Never-Won-A- Buckle/Reylish Star), Janine Hess (All-Age-Walk-Jog/Lark Whos Magic), and Luke Haydon (Sr-Horse/Wicked Smart. CBT Productions’ Race 4 Cash, held March 9-10 at
Curry County Event Center, Clovis, NM, paid out $23,709. Lisa Fernandez and Who Dat Bullet’s 15.167 won the Open 1D first go as well as the Main Race 1D, and Kathy Licensee and Perks of Grace’s 15.203 won the Open 1D’s second go.

The 4-H Spring Fling Buckle Series, held at Bryan
County Fairgrounds, Durant, OK, hosted the first of 4 in the series March 16-17. For the horse show, open cham- pions included Chance Clark (WT), Kathy Solomon (Western), Amy Thrower (English), and Marilynn Rawls (Ranch), while youth champions were Makayla Shields (English), Gracie Lynn DeSchaaf (WT), and Jubilee Stringfellow (Ranch & Western). Rebecca Block showed LifeSavers to win Open Senior Geldings. Sunday’s play- day results were unavailable at press time.
Braggin’ Rights! Ann Salmon-Anderman, Pilot Point, was recog-
nized as NRHA’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year at the NRHA Awards Banquet February 9. An NRHA member for just under 30 years, she has served her beloved sport in almost every role possible, including as NRHA board member, judge, steward, competitor, and volunteer. She has been extensively involved in her local affiliate, South- west Reining Horse Association.
