British facial hair. The British Army, who were clean shaven until that time, had difficulty maintaining authority among the Indian soldiers, who saw their officers' lack of a moustache, beard and sideburns as a lack of manliness. Eventually British officers began to cultivate moustaches and other facial hair to gain the respect of their troops. The trend of sporting a moustache spread quickly through the army and then back home amongst the general British civilian population.
Today my people all over the world talk about the boy that created a global brand with one simple action captured in a photograph. The objective is for this action to trend across the world. It belongs to those that stand proud irrespective of colour and ethnicity.
It's quite a brave, but also confident move to make yourself the face of your brand, what made you decide to do that? There are several reasons for this decision.
I was interviewed by Ben Godfrey at the BBC in 2017. This news interview made the headline story, of our group outperforming other estate agents in respect of price and time to sell. This instantly provided worldwide brand recognition for myself and the business. The story is available to view at
loveyourpostcode.com.
On a personal note, I wished to build something tangible that people could relate too, be inspired by and above all, love. I don’t think it’s a brave move but respect the fact that most people would never dream of such a move. I took the temperature over several years, of how much love and respect there was for the Khalsa (a fully initiated and practising Sikh) in this country. My appearance alone and the carrying of a Kirpan (Sikh sword) would often be a conversation starter, about the contribution and sacrifices made by millions of my ancestors in World War 1 & 2 for Great Britain. I received so much joy, love and respect that it became apparent that there was no risk to such a strategy.
On a final note, I’m a very selective individual. A perfectionist. Never one to be satisfied about any campaign and always looking to make changes to design, layout, font type and creatives. I am such a pain! Even this interview is being rewritten in its entirety an hour before publication. The idea of building a brand on a photograph just made things a lot easier for many people including myself. It’s so simple. It’s just a photograph.
You're quite savvy when it comes to promoting your business, and you understand that marketing is key, so what influences you? Thank you for the compliment. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like seeing your business on the Midlands Elonex StarlightsTMmotorway screen. This is the largest motorway screen in Europe measuring over 4,000 square ft. It’s provided by perhaps one of the nicest people I have ever encountered in business, Nick Smith. The man that walked into my business in November 2018 and advised me that my face would be the brand. There would be no need for any words or even the company name. I listened to Nick and today hold this man in the highest of regards as both a friend and business associate.
But did you know only six years earlier I was the same guy placing

a 20ft x 3ft PVC banner on a metal fence coming off the M5 Junction 1 ?
This banner still sits there today fraying and suffering from weathering. We have come along way and my teams deserve full credit for taking us to the level where we sit today.
If you could pick just three words that describe your company ethos what would they be? Trust builds wealth.
You are seen as a major influencer in both business and the world of property. How do you feel about having the largest Linkedin following for any estate agent in the country? I feel humbled with currently over 32,000+ professional followers on Linkedin. Not sure how that happened if I’m honest, it just keeps rising. I guess my fans and followers love the relaxed and personal approach to business which is transferable to any industry or sector. These videos and posts are reaching over 250,000 people weekly.
The Midlands is a very exciting place growth area of the UK, where do you see Love Your Postcode in a few years’ time? We were made in Birmingham and have enjoyed significant growth in the last seven years. But things are changing fast with this year seeing an unprecedented number of requests from people who feel that they could take our brand to different cities and even countries such as Canada, America and Australia. We are looking forward to expanding but I just don’t know in which geographic direction right now.
I can’t imagine a life outside of the Midlands but the future is yet to be written and if we want the greatest story, I will have to make some sacrifices.
I would like to thank all of our clients, without you all of this would not have been possible. You did not just pay for a service but allowed us to create a legacy.
