MUS IC & F I LM WITH ED & GEMMA

HEART BREAKFAST

Let’s Talk Summer Music!

Right now, as we’re writing this month’s column, we’re looking out of our studio window, and seeing nothing but grey clouds, rain and people’s brollies turning inside out on the street. We’ve just about had enough of Storm Gareth now!

BUT, by the time you’re reading this, it’s April, and summer is just around the corner! Knowing us Brits, at the sight of any break in the clouds and sunshine peeking through, we’ll be running to our local supermarket (most likely in shorts and a t-shirt) for a pack of burgers and some charcoal for the BBQ.

So, while you’re sending out your BBQ invite in your WhatsApp groups, we thought we’d put together a selection of summer music essentials to add to your playlist!

If you listen to us on Heart, you’ll know we’re huge fans of Jess Glynne. In our eyes, she can do no wrong when writing and performing feel good songs, and her latest track is no different. From her album Always In Between, her new song No One has a country-dance feel to it, which sounds strange but trust us, give it a listen; it’s amazing!

When you think of Sam Smith, the words, ‘slow powerful emotional ballads’ probably come to mind, but actually we think his recent tracks should be on your summer playlist. Dancing with A Stranger featuring Normani and Promises by Calvin Harris offer us something a little different from Sam’s early music, and we’re lovin’ it! His collaboration with Calvin Harris will definitely get your guests dancing (even when it starts to rain).

Enjoy the sun (Fingers crossed) Ed and Gemma XX

Tune into Heart Breakfast weekdays from 6-10am. Listen on Heart 100.7, DAB, at heart.co.uk via the Global Player app, and via your smart speaker.

More new music which will sound great in a sun-drenched back garden, is Nothing Breaks Like A Heart by Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus. It’s been a while since we’ve heard music from both artists, but we’re beyond excited to be playing them again on Heart. Miley’s unique voice coupled with Mark Ronson’s country orchestral mix offers the perfect synergy and leaves us wanting a whole album from the duo, not just one song!
