FM Update Bellrock win HMRC contract
Bellrock has won a contract with HMRC at its Northern region to deliver hard FM services. The contract was awarded using Crown Commercial
Services’ facilities management services framework. Hard services will be delivered underpinned by technology to the offices in Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle. These services range from workplace management, mechanical and electrical maintenance to building
fabric maintenance and project delivery. Bellrock will also focus on introducing emerging technologies that allow building occupants to interact with their environment. HMRC’s facilities and estate professionals will have access to “management information in granular detail to make decisions that ultimately bring real efficiency savings and improve service quality and the environment they look after”.
FM services levels of growth lowest since 2012
According to newly published market research close to half of all FM service contractors are likely to experience static or declining sales in 2019. The Facilities Management Market
Report, produced by MTW Research, claims that the market for outsourced FM services is facing the lowest level of growth since 2012, as a result of business uncertainty and pressure on client budgets. The report suggests that service
firms operating in the sector are set to increase their borrowing by more than £1 billion this year, as part of a trend which has seen average debt levels rise 20 per cent over the last 6 years. Debt held by firms in the sector rose by £1Bn in 2019, MTW claims. According to the report 30 per cent of
FM companies are likely to be achieving a ‘mediocre’ credit rating. MTW Research figures indicate the net worth of the FM industry declined in
2018, and that a similar downward trend is likely for 2019. The net worth of the FM service market has risen by just 8 per cent since 2013. However, MTW’s analysis suggests
that signs of firms resisting ‘race to the bottom’ contract prices, a focus on outcome-oriented performance measurement and the potential for differentiations through new technology will see the sector offer added value opportunities in the years ahead.
