Feeder routes for rural areas

TWOproposed pilot schemes for major changes to rural bus serv- ices in Maidstone and West Malling are under consultation. Kent County Council currently

supports services 13 and 59 in Maidstone, and says these serv- ices will become feeder buses, running more frequently to the villages currently served, but there is a catch - passengers will have to change, rather than travel directly into or out of the county town. South of Maidstone, cus-

tomers will change at Morrisons on the Sutton Road. InWestMalling, the public are

being consulted on two plans: a short feeder service where pas- sengers transfer at Martin Square, Larkfield; and a long feeder service, where passen- gers transfer at Maidstone Hos- pital, Barming. A statement said: “It is hoped

the trial will prove to be a more sustainable model that can be used elsewhere in the county.” The consultation finishes on

February 19. Details can be found at KCC’s website.

Bus timetables ‘tweaked’ to improve the service

BUSservices affecting theMalling area have been changed in an ef- fort to "improve reliability". Routes 71, 71A and 72 will not
