THE BEST NEW MUSIC COMING STRAIGHT OUTTA NORWICH brought to you by

AUDIOLINE

HEX

FRIENDS

We love seeing the development of artists over the years as they write new material and begin to make a name for themselves. Inevitably, though, bands come and go and change personnel along the way, blending styles and sounds.

Three well-known Norwich musicians have now got together to form a brand

new act called Hex Friends. Conor Etteridge joins them from Box of Light, drummer Duncan Baker has been the backbone of many a local act – but both he and singer Josie Steward have more recently been in Claws. Bit of a Norwich super-group then.

And If you’re a lover of great pop with clever lyrics and catchy guitar riffs, you’re going to leave their new fresh sound.

As for Josie we have followed her progress for nearly a decade here on BBC Music Introducing in Norfolk – right from the time of her sending in tracks with her band We Can’t Dance. That morphed into Cubs, then Claws who performed on the Introducing stage when the BBC Big Weekend stopped off in Norwich in 2015. Aſter a year away travelling the world Josie is

ready to hit the local scene once more and we’re very pleased about that. And whilst Duncan stays on drums, Josie has picked up the bass this time leaving Conor to bash out those wonderful happy punk melodies on guitar.

So far the band has one song out called Pinky Promise - but they tell us more are recorded and ready to release in the coming months. From the glimpse we have we can tell that once more we have driving indie pop-punk with words you soon find yourself singing (a bit of a Josie trademark that one.) If you’ve been missing music with a bit of fun, a bit of maturity with lyrics that have more to say than I love you or I miss you, these people could be your new best friends
