NERCHA News
Happy New Year to all! Here we are, looking ahead with excitement
to the new year. As we look back on 2018, we can certainly be pleased. Lots of entries, great runs and friendly competition were all part of a successful ORCHA season. Reined Cow Horse is not an easy discipline. Ultimately, you are trying to combine three disciplines together into one seamless run: herd work/cutting, reining and fence work. Each year, we are getting better at it. World-renowned judge Joe Carter even commented favorably on the caliber of our runs at the end of last season. I wanted to take a minute to talk about some-
thing else though. There is a lot more to the ORCHA than the competition. It is the whole at- mosphere of friendship and camaraderie that makes it such an amazing environment to learn new skills in, and hone those skills and bond with an excellent group of people while doing it. We do compete, but we also, every one of us, cheer for everyone else and help them out. The theme of this president’s message was ac-
tually inspired by an email I received from long- time ORCHA member Neil Tull. Neil is recovering from throat surgery and we all wish him a speedy recovery. His email reminded me of what a special thing we have going on here at the Ontario Reined Cow Horse Association. With his permission, I am sharing his email below:

members of the Ontario Reined Cow Horse Asso- ciation for the lovely gift you gave me. I know it took a lot of planning and work to put it all to- gether. Great job, I really appreciate it. Of all the organizations I have belonged to,
this is one of the best. This is because of the great leaders we have and of course the members, of which I can’t say enough about. Every one of us is friendly and helpful to one another and always ready to offer a hand. The club is more about com- panionship and respecting each other than winning at our shows. How can you beat that? It’s an honor to belong to such a club, and I
will do my best to contribute this year. I would ap- preciate it if you give my thanks to everyone. Neil
Neil, I couldn’t have put it better, and I whole-
heartedly agree! Looking forward to seeing you all in the 2019 show season!
