Our editor, Katie was invited to the celebrity-packed launch of the new Range Rover Evoque in London. Joining the likes of Anthony Joshua, Guy Ritchie, Mollie King and Richard Madden the crowd eagerly awaited the reveal of the vehicle that has evolved into something modernist! As camera’s flashed, lights and music added to the atmosphere and as the crowd held their breath, the Evoque made its entrance.
Designed to blend city living with country escapism the new Range Rover Evoque builds on the original’s enduring luxury appeal with a purposeful and precise evolution of its instantly recognisable silhouette. Outstanding volume and proportions are amplified by its pronounced shoulders and powerful wheelarches that, alongside 21-inch wheels, combine to create a strong and dynamic attitude.
Combining all-terrain capability with on-road composure, the Evoque’s new vehicle architecture, updated front and rear suspension and the latest Adaptive Dynamics technology deliver improved refinement, performance, safety and stability in all conditions. Based on Land Rover’s new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture, which has been designed for hybrid-electric power – 48-volt mild hybrid, three cylinder Plug-in Hybrid (available 12 months after launch) and three - and four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. The new body is 13% stiffer than its predecessor, which together with rigidly-mounted subframes reduces noise and vibration intrusion into the cabin.
The Ingenium engines have been advanced with new technologies to make them quieter and more refined, while the ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox has been recalibrated to ensure a smoother, more progressive drive on all-terrains. Adaptive Dynamics combines intelligent sensors and continuously variable suspension dampers that monitor road conditions every 100 milliseconds. The system constantly adjusts the dampers to give a composed ride with maximum control, regardless of any change of terrain or surface.
The new Evoque raises the bar for all-terrain capability in the compact luxury SUV sector, with a unique blend of inherent off-road ability and enhanced technology to provide traction on all surfaces and in every condition. Terrain Response 2 is available as standard for the first time on new Evoque with All-Wheel Drive and automatic transmission. Not only will this allow drivers to choose from four modes (Comfort, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, and Mud & Ruts) to optimise performance and capability, but the new Auto mode enables Evoque to select the most appropriate mode for the conditions and automatically adjust its torque delivery to suit the terrain. Evoque’s maximum wading depth has increased by 100mm to 600mm and is monitored by optional Wade Sensing whilst Ultrasonic sensors in the exterior mirrors
accurately measure the depth of the water, which is displayed on the central touchscreen.
Styling cues include the introduction of super-slim Matrix LED headlamps which provide a more sophisticated front and rear lamp graphic while sweeping directional indicators create a purposeful signature. Stretching across the rear of the vehicle is a striking black accent that creates a sense of visual width, while the precise reduction of exterior panel gaps demonstrates the level of craftsmanship Land Rover’s designers and engineers have worked to achieve.
Uncluttered surfaces and sumptuous materials combine to form a sophisticated and luxurious cabin, state-of-the-art Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, featuring two high-definition 10inch touchscreens for unrivalled functionality and intuitive operation engage the driver and Smart Settings artificial intelligence algorithums learn driver preferences and readies the cabin for their journey! Alongside the refined interior and exterior colours on offer there's a selection of responsibly-sourced interior materials, from Eucalyptus textile to Kvadrat wool blends. To reflect this responsibly sourced philosophy, Adwoa Aboah model and activist wore a dress made of recycled plastic and hosted an exclusive Boiler Room x Evoque gig headlined by Little Simz.
Inside, increased rear legroom, a larger loadspace and enhanced small item stowage are delivered thanks to a longer wheelbase. Available in S, SE and HSE trim choices, with an R-Dynamic variant for greater personalisation and priced from £31,600 in the UK.
