the group’s new president, hopes to recruit younger people as well as members of the older genera- tion. Numbers have dwindled to just 13 in recent years, but the av- erage age of members has dropped, too. The youngest is 18. Mother-of-four Mrs Menenes-
Bautista said: “It’s our centenary this year andwe can use that to get involved in the community. “We’re a small group but it’s so
friendly andwehave sucha giggle. There are lots of lonely people out there and we need to get to those women to let themknowwe are a forward-thinking organisation. “It’s hard to know why Leeds
struggles a bit and Hollingbourne doesn’t. But it’s a really exciting time, so if you’re interested, give me a call.”
Mrs Menenes-Bautista lives in
Leeds with her Colombian-born husband Andres (41) and their children Celestina (11), Otis (10), Primrose (2) and Valentino (1). Treasurer Jane Newsome, a
member for 32 years, saidthere are burgeoning groups in places like TunbridgeWells. She added: “The towns are flour- ishing but the rural villages less so.

“Our fortunes have turned
around recently with some younger members. They are keen to get involved. A membership of around 30would be great.” Mrs Newsome hopes to delve
