PoppyAppeal THE Royal British Legion branch area of Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Thurnham and Leeds collected a record amount during the 2018 PoppyAppeal. The RBL managed to collect a


huge £31,000. Spokesman Derek Davison


said: “This is a tremendous result – certainly the best ever.Our year was brought to an end with a … total for our branch area exceed- ing £31,000.” Mr Davison thanked all of the


people who gave up their time to collect for the Legion. The exact figurewould be pub- lished shortly, he said.

Cashpoint dragged out in Co-Op store ramraid


RAMRAIDERS ploughed


through aCo-Op store in a village nearMaidstone in the early hours to steal its cashmachine. It is understood a Mitsubishi


Shogun slammed into the front of the shop in Lenham, and pulled out the cashmachine. Itwas dragged along Faversham


Road and over the A20 towards Doddington,where itwasdumped after the cashwas removed. The areawas sealedoff by police


in both directions on January 9. The ATM was placed inside the


convenience store, rather than a traditional hole in thewall. Police said: “We receiveda call at


2.08am onWednesday, January 9, 2019 that a vehicle, believed to be a Mitsubishi Shogun, had been used to steal anATMfromthe premises on FavershamRoad. “The Shogunwas later found on


fire in Flint Lane and detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate have launched


an investigation into the incident.” District Commander, Chief In-


spector Ray Quiller said: “This crime has caused considerable dis- ruption to this local business. “We are appealing forwitnesses


whomay have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, saw the vehicle travelling into the village or leaving pulling the cashmachine.” The robbery came weeks after a


cashmachinewas gougedfromthe Sainsbury’s Local store in Head- corn. It is thought that themachine may have been empty at the time. A spokesman for the Southern


Co-Op said: “Wewould urge any- one with information relating to this incident to come forward and speak to the police. “We aredoing our best to reopen
