ExpectM20 to be closedatweekend

DRIVERS on theM20 face a sec- ondweekendofmajor closures in bothdirections as engineersbuild newbridges on themotorway. The shutdown will affect junc-

tions 9-11 as Highways England creates a newinterchange forAsh- ford – junction 10A – as part of a £104mproject. The latest action is planned just

weeks after a similar closure took place asDownsMailwent topress. Tom Selby, M20 J10A project

manager,HighwaysEngland, said: "Building this new junction is a huge job, andwe areworking hard to keep local people up to date about our progress and what our workwillmean for them.” The closure will run from10pm

on Friday 25 January until 6amon Monday 28 January. The motorway will be closed in

bothdirections between junction9- 11 eastbound and westbound be- tween junctions 11-10. A clearly signed diversion will

be in place directing westbound traffic via the M20, A29, A2, M2, A249. The eastbound diversion will follow the M25, A2, M2, A20 andM20. The work is part of a series of

schemes along the length of the M20, including the £92million smart motorway project on a 6.5 mile stretch between junction 3 at West Malling and junction 5 at Aylesford. Highways England says its

workforce is currentlyworking on the verges there – replacing drainage pipes, installing lighting, building noise barriers and creat- ing refuge areas. When the verge is complete,

crews will move to the central re- serve where work will include re- moving the metal

fencing,

installing a solid concrete barrier and resurfacing lane four. The work, which started in July

last year, is due for completion in March 2020.

It’s frothy, family fun

FAMILIES are being urged to sign up for some frothy, family fun this summer in Mote Park in aid of a children’s charity. The event is the Demelza Hos-

pice Care for Children Bubble Rush on June 23 at 10am. Bubble Rush sees participants, both young and the young at heart, make their way through walls of bubbles and foam, going through different coloured zones and having lots of fun along the way. The route is pushchair and

wheelchair friendly, with no mini- mum age limit, so the whole fam-

ily can take part. Those taking part can choose to do the 2.5 km course once or twice. Participants can run, walk, or toddle and this year Demelza hopes to raise even more fromthe annual event. There is no official fundraising
