and throwing out anything that’s empty, out of date or has seen better days. Then, invite some friends round for an evening and get them to bring their make-up. Have a ‘girlie night’ where you all try out different looks on each other. You’ll be amazed at what your friends may come up with for you – and vice versa! Then you can go out and buy a few new items in colours that you probably would never have thought of for yourself!

The holistic approach So, now it’s time to get started! • Clean out your cupboards so that you can throw away anything that has expired or is outdated or which doesn’t fit in with your new eating plan.

• Write yourself out a meal plan for the next few weeks and make sure you have the groceries to cook your delicious meals.

• Splash out on a bike or a new pair of track shoes so that you’re ready to pump up the volume on a country walk or on a treadmill.

• Get the invites out to the girls and clear out the make-up bag!

Aim to have your plate packed with as many ‘coloured’ foods as possible, such as red, yellow and green peppers, purple aubergine, yellow sweetcorn and red tomatoes

foods, all of which have been linked to conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Pump it up! As many people will vouch for, you don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds on expensive gym memberships to get fit. Regular exercise will help to lower your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure, but anything that you do that gets your heart pumping can only be good for you. So whether you go for a walk with the dog, play an hour’s badminton with some friends, or swim some laps at the local pool, it’s all good for you. Not only will it get the heart going, it will also keep your mind sharper!

Give yourself a makeover! Let’s face it, we all need to change our look a little from time to time, don’t we? It’s what keeps us fresh and up to date! In any case, you do know, don’t you, that you should change make-up items such as your mascara every few months? Again, however, there’s no need to spend a lot of money on your makeover. Start with the basics by going through your make-up collection

Before you start out on your ‘new year, new you’, just remember… • Be realistic - Don’t set yourself up for failure! Remember, baby steps…. • Be specific - If you are going to set goals, make sure you’re very clear on what they are. Your mantra is ‘challenging but attainable’!

• Appreciate your successes - Every time you think you’ve done something well, give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back.

• And finally – do it because you WANT to! Make sure that, if you want to change something, you’re doing it for YOU!
