DECEMBER 2018 THE RIDER /11 Week 2019 – Horse Day CRHRA News Season’s Greetings! Grey Bruce Farmers’

November 27, 2018 - Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week, 2019 (#GBFW19), in its 53rd year, will run from Thursday, Jan- uary 3rd to Wednesday, January 9th, starting with Dairy Day, and ending with Ecological Day. It is a 7-day Agri- cultural Conference packed with a most impressive and informative line-up of speakers! It is held at the Elmwood Community Centre in Elmwood (# 38 Queen St. West). Elmwood is located approximately 8 kilometers north of Hanover on County Road #10. The co-ordinators for this event, Grey County Ag Services, in conjunction with agri- cultural commodity leaders from Grey and Bruce Coun- ties, have attempted to feature at least one high-profile speaker for each day, targeting the issues and challenges facing the farming community today. The Committee is delighted to announce that this

year, all days of #GBFW19 will be Live Streamed. So, if horse enthusiasts live further afield, they can still partici- pate in this amazing conference! Of course, the best way to experience GBFW is in person, so that attendees can chat with the speakers during breaks, visit the tradeshow booths, and network with fellow producers over a deli- cious lunch. If that is just not possible, this new online viewing option will allow people from far and wide to learn from our spectacular speakers. Please go to our new website, www.gbfw.ca to pre-register for this online view- ing option. $20/day or $100/week. One of the most exciting days each year is Horse Day

– Sunday January 6, 2019. It runs from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. Where else, in one venue, can you experience pre- sentations from: a Photographer/Vacation Junkie; an Ani- mal Health Specialist; a Professional Animal Trainer; the Founder of the County Mounties; a Veterinarian; and a Re- tired Soldier, Privateer and Adventurer. Now in its second year, there will be interactive demos on both levels of the Community Centre after the afternoon break. This year the program will include:

• Shawn Hamilton, Owner, CLiX Photography will be our first speaker. She will take attendees on a wonderful jour- ney as she shares, The Adventures of a Riding Vacation Junkie - Seeing the World From the Saddle. Her photos will captivate you! • Robert Fera, Animal Health Specialist, Animal Pro Prod- ucts will deliver, Probiotics, Prebiotics, & Digestive Sup- plements for Horses. There are a lot of questions about these supplements, so Robert will chip away at this con- fusion. • Ellie Ross, BSc Ag, Director of Animal Behaviour & Ap- plied Training, Wag and Train Inc.; and Columnist –“Be- tween the Ears”, The Rider Newspaper, will delve into Equine Cognitive Psychology – How Do Horses Learn?. Ellie’s presentation style will have the room sitting at the edge of their seats, as they learn how their horses think, and how to gain and build trust. • Cindy Fuerth, Founder of the County Mounties will share, De-Spooking Horses Using Mounted Patrol Meth- ods/Equine Confidence. This will be an enlightening pres- entation! • After the afternoon break, Downstairs Demos will be of- fered in the upper and lower levels of the Elmwood Com- munity Centre. On the lower level, Lawrence Cannon will share an interactive program about Expedition Grade Horse Travel Skills. Lawrence will provide information about horse packing skills - a basic hands on introduction to the pack saddle, pack boxes, tying a diamond hitch on the pack saddle, and tying/using the basket hitch on a trail saddle to transport your gear on your horse camping ex- pedition. Meanwhile, on the upper level, Dr. Mary Baks, Owner/Operator, Walkerton Equine Clinic, will share, First Aid For Horses – What We Need to Know. She will provide members of the audience the knowledge and con- fidence they need to make critical decisions in emergency situations.

** New Admission Cost** Registration is $25 at the door (includes HST). Cash or Cheque only please. Pre-registration is not required, but on-line pre-reg-

istration is an option this year for those wishing to pay with debit or credit. Join them by Live Streaming. Go to www.gbfw.ca

and click on the Live Streaming tab to pre-register for this online viewing option. $20/day or $100/week (Plus HST and PayPal Processing Fees). Conference content will be available to live stream ticket holders for one month fol- lowing the event. The Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week Committee would
