2018 Wall of Honor Award Chief Buford Whitaker (Deceased)
Chief Buford Whitaker’s career began in 1952 with the City of Miami Police. Four years later he moved to the City of Miami Beach Police Department where he served for twenty-three years before retiring as a Major. He was named Chief of the North Miami Beach PD in 1979 serving until his retirement in 1986. Chief Whitaker served as the FPCA President during the 1984-1985 year. During his tenure he envisioned the FPCA’s Foundation which would become a reality in 1994. He is credited with reshaping the FPCA into a business model with initiatives such as training and lobbying. Chief Whitaker left an indelible mark upon the Association which is still felt today.
